I was thinking about what motivates me for intimacy today and I put it into context of why I do anything really the way I do it. What motivates you for intimacy or for doing anything in general? Or in general everything I do seems to feel because of care for others, wanting me and others to reach the best states of longterm mental wellbeing, which might be a special case of an algorithm for stress/dissonance minimization my organism evaluated as the most effective. Creating a safe, interesting, healthy, stable, happy inner and outer (being one in my lens) environment, as I evaluated collectively studying and applying knowledge about wellbeing as directly as possible is the most effective life equation. My dominant lens seems to be now ontology agnostic/fluid (having no ontologies and all at once) empirical bayesianism maximizing predictive power of mental models and felt longterm goodness (happiness, positive valence, wellbeing) of living in those models (memeplexes), which seems to be ruled by how internally symmetric they are, how much internal flow there is, minimizing feeling of being blocked or trapped. Ontology agnostic/fluid as in implementing all and none of the ontologies in my neural classifier structures, being able to reason in and feel any of them or combination of them without inherent strong attractor attachment that makes one not being able to escape out of that local minima. This applies to all my mental models in my experience. The space for ontologies doesn't seem to be too big from the ones I discovered so far. When it comes to ontologies, for pragmatic reasons I oscillate between physicalism, idealism, unification of those, and transcendence of those (possibly humanly ungraspable fundamental), or superposition of those is kind of another ontology on its own. Same for ethics, where I'm mostly in utilitarianism or I adapt to the current environment's ethics. When it comes to most other mental models, you live in the space of some individual or environment's social constructs (mental constructions in general) for example with some shared sense of realism, but you are able to always disattach from them. That's why all at once is also none here. By default, there is no ontology really and when someone in the environment is talking to me in physicalist ontology, I switch to it. In a similar way how actors can switch between different roles effectively. Traveling the statespace of mental models according to what the universe throws at you and you dance with that sensory data. The same goes for being able to switch between (in experience) fundamental stress aka dissonance minimizing algorithms such as "reduction of suffering is fundamental" vs "everything is and always was perfect, there's no need for change" vs "effectively gathering all possible predictive or interesting knowledge is fundamental" vs "striving for something best beyond human comprehension" vs other philosophical or ideological frameworks, such as stoicism, rationalism, Buddhism, transhumanism, effective hedonism, political frameworks, pre/post/metamodernism,... and so on, which all can be framed under meaning being the pursue of valence, but also the other way around, valence being one special case of meaning. I mostly live in need of reduction of suffering and enhancement of wellbeing, valence being fundamental. But experimentally one can never reach as blissful, satisfying states of mind if he doesn't symmetrify his neurophenomenology as effectively as possible, which seems to be usually with the most direct approach. But this, even when experienced, can still be afterward labeled as "illusory" by other conceptualizing total mental frameworks with different subjective objective definitions of what is good, meaning, truth, etc. Which is totally valid under philosophical axiom fluid metalens. My proposed definition: Ego is the adapted steering homeostasis function of the organism on the level of thoughts and emotions, pressure to change, knot at the centre of experience where oscillatory vibrations of contraction and expansion clash, epistemic agent hub of sensations On one hand ego can direct the organism to universally positive valence situations such as satisfying basic needs, caring about health, or trying to implement and satisfy (selfactualize) some learned subjective meaning of life/big goal, or anything in general generating long big smooth generalizer brain waves (those implement happiness through symmetrification, expansion, but can be less efficient at very concrete tasks where thinking out of the box isnt as needed at which more solidified contracted diverse information blocking ego seems to be better (smaller space of accepted experiences)), that implements internal pleasant interconnectedness indirectly and can be just partially. (when the whole internal model of everything is not included, you get clusters of conflicting priorities fighting with eachother) It validates (reinforces) itself internally and also seeks external validation through social acceptance/status for example. It wants to be more confident in it's beliefs. It usually feels dissonance when measuring different beliefs than its own in the environment. It wants to feel the sense of belonging this way. We are succesful at achieving things useful for our survival and community/state building species because of this mechanism. But it can get the organism stuck in a hedonic treadmill if the goal is not about the direction of the whole lifespan of the organism's model of itself or if this mechanism of goal construction (progressively changing the state of the inner world simulation to a state that is evaluated as having more positive valence aka goodness of the experience) is hijacked by instant gratification mechanisms that narrows one's space of things that brings pleasure and dont sidestep the hedonic treadmill such as heroin, social media, some types of food, some videogames,... Or it can redirect the organism into nondual thinking or deconstructive meditation, or psychedelics used in certain way, that implements internal pleasant interconnectedness directly for a long time and seems to raise the hedonic default set point. On the other hand function of the ego is internal dissonance generation, more activated jet fuel of the stress response sympathetic nervous system, which results in a pressure to change, defence mechanisms, fighting with or running away from current state (from subjective negative valence situations, learned from direct experience (the more (less) symmetrical, the more consonant (dissonant) the thing/state in relation to organism's current framework/aethetics, the more attracting (repulsive) it is) (boredom mechanism is implicit addiction of negative valence, distabilizing stability, adding pressure to change) or indirect experience (someone telling you his bad experience and you simulating it in your head and saving it)) through implementing stricter structure (narrowing) in evaluating the sensory data. Dissonance can also be generated by other basic homeostasis functions in the whole organism sending error signals such as hunger, body tempature or in general any withdrawal symtoms. The whole body with mind's structure included is a hiearchical stack of thermostats, hiearchical Markov blankets as hiearchical beliefs on top of which a principle of least action is applied, a control system sending error signals, aka statistical physics of the brain/organism activity dynamics physics. All of this applies to any mental process really, from loving to play football, growing plants, doing maths, philosophy, to implementing some ontology/ethics. Learned (from the environment or from introspection) mental processes have the function of raising the goodness of the experience (by being predicted to do that thanks to direct experience or someone telling you or your own hypothesis) through change in a certain set of dimensions (reductible to basic needs) in relation to organism's current thoughts/emotions/configuration/conditionings/framework/aethetics/memeplexes. (they are also a conditioning on their own) They are subjectively (organism's predictions) and objectively (physical implementation in the nervous system, symmetry theory of valence seems to tell objective valence) sometimes more, sometimes less, effective. Ego is easily irritated from smallest things if the current state is evaluated as being in or too close to a subjective (learned conditioning) but objective (physical representation) negative valence situation, which generates negative valence in a feedback loop way, and you get more neuroticism, closedmindedness, narrowred perfectionism, disconnection, fragmentation, introversion, more disagreableness, stress, anxiety, fear, pain, sadness, procrastination and therefore suffering thanks to more internal dissonance and less pleasant symmetrical information flow. Happiness can be seen as the amount of sensory data instances that the organism evaluates as a neutral/positive valence situation. When the organism labels/hypothesizes/predicts/approximates the functions or/and causes of its inner procceses/beliefs that generate dissonance, and the functions and causes of those causes and so on and keeps that as a process about processes, it gains agency over the concrete processes. Instead of reasoning from implicit assumptions, it reasons from implicit assumptions about possible assumptions and manipulates their structure more directly. It can deconstruct them this way too by dissolving them by generating conflicting data to the belief's structure (negation or stripping away what makes it logical, sense of self, time, space,...), that's selfinquiry concetration deconstructive meditation practice, strenghtening central executive network and weakening default mode network, aligning predicted data with measured data by relaxing conceptual top down processing, reducing the amount of error signals thanks to deconstructing various homeostatic functions (thoughts, emotions, senses, identity, ideas, concepts, conditionings, predictions, sensations, all ises and isnts in general, anything generating movement, pressure, dissonance,...) that work, cause eachother, arise codependently, disidentifying with them, noticing their impermanence, relativizing them, putting them in the context of infinite consciousness (by putting this process to the automatic subcontious you get sensations constantly liberating themselves) then less sensory data will be pattern matched as full of errors. If you objectify, deconstruct the hiearchy of beliefs this way through deconstructive meditation or 5-MeO-DMT, there are no thoughts anymore, just pure nonsymbolic unified happening as the most general single belief. Dissolving the body sensations also dissolves the mind. Stricter reasoning might have advantages and disadvantages in different problem solving tasks. With less ego you also are less competitive. Doing what is systematically the most effectively in the most stable way interconnecting/symmetrifying one's nervous system seems to me to be the most efficient algorithm for cultivating happiness and wellbeing. I am often attached to formalizing everything in neuroscience or/and at the same time I am attached to not being attached to anything, but I can jump out of it dynamically to anything so I'm also not fundamentally attached to which I am attached and so on, form (attachment) is emptiness (nonattachment), when you're attached, you're also not attached, when you're not attached, you're also attached.
